Dear Wolfgang,

Your letter, it's real revelation for me. I've never known about so many interesting cards in German history! About support Germany provided to USA in every war since Korea; about grateful German people, happy with American presence on their soil. Please, forgive me my ignorance, but I've grown up in '80. Communist propaganda fed me evidence bullshit in which German protested all the time against American military bases in Ramsau and other. Hundred thousands German demonstrants against Cruise and Pershing missiles in annual "Easter Marshes" must be only Warsaw-Pact propaganda also. I understand all of your arguments. I wish I agree some of them. But there are some nuances changing the meaning of all expression. You try to compare USA and German "pressing for wars". Due to my opinion, it's a mistake. Different time, style of occupation and final score. Germany it's a country with unique past in Europe. I could only imagine how confused I would be if I read in newspaper: "German troops are leaning forward" or "Luftwaffe again attacked Baghdad. Half tone bombs fall on a hospital in Nasiria", or something like that. For Iraqi people the difference would be less then for us, of course, but I'm grateful to Mr. Chancellor Schroeder not to involve in the war. Another thing. Yours remedy on Polish pro-American love sounds reasonable, for first sight: One strong Europe, with one foreign policy, united army, one government, ready to stand for the hardest challenges of today's world. Sounds great, but...

It's wishful thinking. Even "old" EU is far away from this point. You dream about USA-bis, your French friends - about Grand France, and Chancellor Schroeder - about next votes in land stags...

War on Iraq was quit stupid, American conquest expedition. Right. But look who was against? France-German-Russia-China alliance. France, because France is always against if there is no Frenchman as a Monsieur le General, Schroeder - the wickets chancellor in German post-war history, trying to collect few votes more (at least he got 4 votes average in Bundestag). And well known democratic ensemble - Russia-China. Just after war (it was so easy to predict) French president Chirac (called in England "Le

Worm") tell the world about "good changes in Iraq" and smile to America begging on oil contracts in "notre Moyen Orient". Russian president Putin say, that he never liked Saddam and George W. Bush is his close pal, as usually. Where is this United Europe

from your letter, dear Wolfgang? Who is responsible for Europe foreign policy? Tell me, why Chirac and Schroeder (or Chirac himself) have a unique privilege to present the statement of all Europe? Why Chirac, not Tony Blair, for example? Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Poland, Check, Slovakia, Hungary, called by Donald Rumsfeld "New Europe" choose to help US in Iraq. Is it really so dramatic, so painful, so hard for Germany and France? I don't think so. Because there was no such choice: USA vs. "Old Europe". No! There was only choice: Saddam or no Saddam.

Wine, mild taste of pipe, sunset over Frankonia and smooth conversation with you it is what I'm dreaming about. Maybe such evening will come soon. Maybe in July? Maybe about 10 July? If you have time.

At last I have to thank you for your letter. I'm proud of you. You are a wise noble man. And forgive your young-blood nephew some fever words. I hope you are right. Even, if I can't see that now, from my place in history.
